Earlier appeal from Pastor Joshua: The biggest challenge we have as a community is a source of clean water. We don't have a functioning borehole near and we get water for home consumption from at least a nearby swamp, although not so near, that the community dug and sometimes it gets even dry during dry season making life more harder for the people in OMHI. Sometime there was a borehole which was a bit near but ever since it got spoiled about 5 years ago we failed to repair it since it costs a lot of money to repair.

With money from a donation, Pastor Joshua and OMHI recently had the district technicians evaluate the current status of the old borehole. Their conclusion was that a new borehole costing about $10,000 was NOT necessary - and that the current borehole could be repaired for $5,000. Of course, this astronomical amount of money is not available to OMHI without your help! Please help by donating any amount toward meeting this need!

Current Omecha Water Source:

From Pastor Joshua: To clarify about the water source and the image of the water source that I sent to you, we had a borehole but since it got spoiled we have faced a lot of challenges when it comes to clean water for the community. When the borehole got spoiled we had a meeting as a community and we decided to dig a well next to the swamp as a source of water. The water in the hole that we dug comes from underground, and we channeled it to a sloppy area so that water keeps flowing to the swamp as you see in the picture. Sometimes other people go very long distance to collect water more, so those who have bicycles and those who are strong to carry water from very far kilometers, but the borehole we had (old one) is in the middle of the community and it's accessible to at least everyone in the community, though it remains far from some few people in the community.

Yeah when it rains we collect water with buckets for home use and sometimes even drink, and there's another method that we use when collecting rain water. We get grass, tie it around the tree, and put a bucket, or even a jerican, to collect it like a tap, meaning sometimes when rain is there it's a bit easier to get water. It becomes worse during dry days, because even some seasons the hole we dug gets dry or the flow of water reduces.
