From Pastor Joshua:
“We did both theory and
practical parts during the training and I have a strong belief that we can
now do it and once we do it the very way we were told we shall be able to
have more yield than we used to have.”
I went with Moses for the
training in jinja where we attended the training and we returned home
successfully. And we give God glory for that! For he is greater than we may
think.
During
the training we majorly learnt how to produce vegetables, where we learnt
about:
1:
preparing the garden;
(i)The garden is supposed to be prepared early
enough before the rainy season,
(ii) How to prepare the garden;
We are told not to burn but to cut, wead and
collect the grass together with leaves because they decompose and they can
turn into manure.
(iii) How to plant;
We are told to plant in a line and space accordingly
(iv) When to plant
We are told to plant mostly when the soil is moist
and transplant in the evening, but before transplanting we are told to water
before transplanting
(v) Harvesting;
Depending on when it gets ready.
IN ADDITION TO THAT; we
again learnt how to make manure, how to apply, how to measure the garden
before planting so that you will know the amount of seeds to plant and even
expect amount to harvest, and how to do irrigation,
We did both theory and
practical parts during the training and I have a strong belief that we can
now do it and once we do it the very way we were told we shall be able to
have more yield than we used to have.
And in the committee
meeting we had today we discussed about how to start the practical part of
the agriculture that we learnt but we came to realize that there are very
serious factors that hinder us from starting to practice agriculture
accordingly and this includes;
(1) Lack of Land/garden:
We do not have Land/garden yeah the garden we
always use is for someone else and we always rent it each season we want to
do agriculture and sometimes at the end of the harvest we realize that maybe
we didn't even benefit from it because it becomes more expensive to rent at
the end of the season maybe you get low harvest or even no harvest.
(2) Lack of irrigation
system;According to
the training and the knowledge we have got we have come to realize that
irrigation is a must and the reason is that due to the climate changes and
besides that during the rainy season there is no high demand of vegetables
crops because everyone will be able to plant it more so for sale and for
home consumption and during dry season the number of farmers which are able
to produce vegetables is less due to lack of water for curing out
agriculture, so therefore since the production is low the demand becomes
higher and we shall be able to have more sells compared to raining seasons
that will enable us raise more income which enable us to pay for our own
bills like; paying school fees, provide food, and other basic needs for both
the church, community and the children.
(3)Oxens for ploughing;
We do not have
Oxens for ploughing we have been hiring for Oxens for ploughing for people
who have it or sometimes hire tractors and we have realize that it's very
expensive to hire almost every equipment needed to cury out agriculture.
And we do call upon
everyone, every Christian and all the well wishers to come and we join our
hands together to help OMHI help the needy families, orphans, church and the
community, we are very sure that when we have all those things at hand we
shall not fail to produce crops, sell and cater for our own bills.
May God bless you,
Pr Joshua
