and other children of the community.

The purpose of this website is to give information about Omecha Ministry Hope Initiative - and to invite you to support this ministry with donations.

Omecha Ministry Hope Initiative consists of both Omecha Church and the associated orphanage as one entity - and is located in Omecha Village, Amilimil Parish, Kuju Subcounty in the Amuria District of the Eastern Region of Uganda. Omecha Church is a congregation of The Church of Uganda - a member of the Anglican Communion. Omecha Church is in the Soroti Diocese area. (The word "Omecha" means "a place of rescue.")

Amuria, the larger town in the area is about 23 miles (36.5 kilometres) by road north of the city of Soroti and about 203 miles (327 kilometres) by road northeast of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. (See the maps below.) The native language of Omecha Village is Ateso, but the people also know English because of their schooling and since English is the official language of Uganda.

The orphanage associated with Omecha Church is both an integral part of Omecha Church and an integral part of Omecha Ministry Hope Initiative. The orphanage is sponsored by and controlled by Omecha Church through the constitution of the OMHI organization. "The church is the mother of the orphanage." In particular, the church budgets money for the orphanage, and the church committee that manages the church is the same one that manages the orphanage.

Besides providing the basic organizational structure of Omecha Ministry Hope Initiative, The OMHI Constitution provides the organization's

Mission, e.g., To point orphaned and vulnerable children to hope in Christ,

Aims, Objectives, and Programs, e.g., To provide orphan and vulnerable children with nutritional support, shelter, education, and health support,

Guiding principles and Values, e.g., Love, integrity, and the power of prayer.

* 1) A Community Based Organization (CBO) in Uganda is an organization operating at a sub-county level whose objectives are to promote and advance the wellbeing of the members of the community. A CBO is further registered at the district level by the District Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Monitoring Committee (DNMC) with recommendation from the Sub-County NGO Monitoring Committee (SNMC).
   2) This website campaign for OMHI is being managed in Pennsylvania, USA, and is following the exemption restrictions of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations. For example, although OMHI is a registered and certified CBO charity in Uganda at the national level, OMHI is not registered in the USA as a 501(c)(3) organization, so your donation is NOT tax deductible.
